No More “Public” in Public Schools?
There’s an interesting report in EducationNews this morning that really emphasizes everything we’ve been trying to share on this site.
In a story by Joe Smydo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, we learn that Pittsburgh Public Schools
“will drop “public” from its name and adopt a new, standardized way of referring to its schools as part of a campaign to brighten and strengthen the district’s image.”
Seems that public school administrators actually do realize how fed-up Americans are getting with inadequacies in our schools. Not to mention that the rest of the globe thinks our schools are a joke.
The article goes on to report:
“By dropping “public” from its name, . . . the district might be able to avoid the negative attitude often associated with public schools.”
The district also plans to upgrade its parent hotline into a “customer service center”. The Pittsburg Public School District should read “Set Our Teachers FREE! A Plan to Save Public Education“ by Don Kingsland, so they can learn a more effective way to restore excellence to their programs, without having to be ashamed of being public schools. Here’s hoping!
Now!
On a lighter note, I found a video on TeacherTube that I would like to share with you. It is beautiful and uplifting, though you may need to turn your speakers down if the music gets too loud for you. Enjoy!
Have a safe and wonderful day!
Hugs!
