No Change for NO CHILD. . .

Schematic of No Child Left Behind

There has been lots of talk about revising No Child Left Behind. Educators, politicians, and parents are dissatisfied with the law, which has been in effect for five years amid much controversy. Even proponents of NCLB acknowledge the need for improvements.

But it’s not gonna happen this year.

In an Associated Press article by Nancy Zuckerbrod, “Senate Won’t Take Up New Education Law” we learn:

“The top two lawmakers on the Senate Education Committee said Friday they are putting off consideration of a new No Child Left Behind law until next year.”

“Sens. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., and Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., have decided that there’s not enough time this year to complete work on the legislation, which has not yet been formally introduced.”

According to the Senators and their committee, these reform changes are too important to rush and “solid legislation” is the overriding goal.

There are just a couple of little problems with this postponement:

  • 1st - Unless changes are made to the law, we are stuck with a system that has proven to be unwieldy, unfair and especially damaging to lower-income families and schools.

  • 2nd - The article admits that a hotly-contested Presidential Election year is not an ideal time for passing solid bipartisan legislation.

What is taking so long?

Why does it take years for anything to get improved in Congress?

Why can’t we fix (or scrap) things when they don’t work?

Should we be using our children as guinea pigs, while the solution is worked out?

Could this be one of the reasons Congress only has a 17% approval rating?

There is a COMPLETE, EFFECTIVE plan for revamping all our public schools quickly, on a NATIONAL level. The Kingsland Plan by Don Kingsland has the answers. Why are we wasting time waiting for Congress to hand us another self-defeating solution? It’s time for Americans to demand change.

We have an election coming up in 2008 and NOT ONE of the presidential candidates in either party has offered a WORKABLE solution to the problems with our schools. While they bicker back and forth about Iraq and hairstyles, our dropout rate is increasing drastically; right along with crime and violence. That is simply NOT ACCEPTABLE!

I DARE ANY OF THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES to find a better program than The Kingsland Plan for fixing education in the USA!

Disgusted!
