Nation's Report Card Map of USA
The Nation’s Report Card, compiled by the National Center for Education Statistics, is now available. The map above is a representation of the results nationwide in Math.

Students in 4th grade and 8th grade were tested and their scores were compared to previous years, especially 2005. And the results are:

  • 14 states (Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Virginia ) and the District of Columbia improved at both grades.

  • 8 states (Alabama, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Montana, New York, West Virginia, and Wisconsin ) improved at grade 4 only.

  • 11 states (Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, and Wyoming ) improved at grade 8 only.

  • 17 states and the Department of Defense schools showed no significant change at either grade.

  • No states showed score decreases.

(Data taken from the Executive Summary – Math)

So, though no states showed actual decreases, 36 states (72% of all 50 states) showed no improvement in one or both grades tested.

Not exactly a report card to be proud of, is it?
