Dear Dave,

Excellent article! I heartily recoomend it to all my readers. (Just click on Dave Teacher above.)

I’m old enough that “Civics” was a required course. I hated all my History classes but I was forced to learn and now I’m grateful for it.

You are so right about our current Social Studies.
Political Correctness has taken precedence over facts.

If we don’t start educating our children to be critical thinkers, and appreciate the country they live in - it’s going to become a country that we won’t be able to appreciate.

The old saying “If we don’t learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it” has never been so compelling.

We don’t teach the lessons of the fall of the Roman Empire, or the Greek or Persian Empires - and now, the UK has removed any reference to the Holocaust from curriculum - because it offends Muslims - who claim it never happened!

We need to join forces and MAKE schools educate our children.

I thought I would recommend an article that I wrote on my blog to you after seeing the picture of My Favorite Martian at the top of the page with his chalkboard. It's titled, "An Independence Day Thought: Change Social Studies."
