Expensive Espresso/Cappuchino Maker!

I found an article on Digg while I was “digging” some links my friends had sent to me.

As I read the article, my blood began to boil, because our local schools have just been informed of more “necessary cuts”, thanks to budget deficits and education funding cutbacks.

NOTE: This is in spite of the fact that our state has an EDUCATION LOTTERY that dim-witted voters chose, in order to brings vast sums of money to bolster our pathetically-ranked schools. HAH! What a joke!

But it turns out that Chicago school bureaucrats are just as interested in lining their own pockets as our education lottery people are.

Espresso or Cappuchino anyone?

When the annual audit report for Chicago’s Public Schools was released, it was revealed that somebody spent $67,000 dollars to buy 30 cappuchino/espresso machines (that the schools never requested).

Seems that somebody not only bought the machines from someone, but they paid top dollar, instead of obeying the CPS competitive bidding rules.

The schools didn’t request the machines and most of them DON’T EVEN KNOW HOW TO USE THEM!

What the heck is going on in Illinois? First, the governor, now this!

But Wait! There’s More!

As if this bureaucratic SNAFU wasn’t enough, the story finishes by explaining that Chicago schools now have a “tighter security on their record system”.

Seems some “unidentified high school staffers” had been changing the grades of certain high school athletes. Do ya’ think they were changing the grades up, or down? Sigh!

The story was originally published on Wednesday in the Chicago Sun-Times, but I got the UPI version when I clicked the link. I’ve included the link for you, if you care to read further:
