Thank Goodness for Great Teachers!
It’s at times like this when I realize how important teaching is!
If you haven’t seen my posts for the last few days, it’s because my computer has gone all “wonky”.
I don’t claim to be a computer expert by any means and I am seeing firsthand how important clear, concise, understandable instruction truly is. I have been getting advice from people who are experts in their fields. They give me excellent instructions BUT I’m not experienced enough at this stuff to be able to make the jump from one step to the next, without someone holding my hand. It can be very discouraging and I’m not only feeling overwhelmed, but totally inadequate as well. There are so many things that the experts just assume that is known that, whether big or tiny, makes all the difference in having the confidence to continue. Things that I’m confused about make me afraid to try anything else for fear of causing more damage.
I really believe this is happening in our schools as well. So many things seem to be common sense to the experts, when to a new student, it seems like an overwhelming amount of info to digest. I really appreciate those “teachers” who take the time to check whether I understand one step before they lead me on to the next repair. I know that this is an important part of teaching and my hat is off to those who take this responsibility seriously (and patiently) whether they are teaching adult computer newbie learners like yours truly, or K-1 youngsters trying to master the alphabet.
Hooray for GOOD teachers!
Wish me luck!
