Cheating in School and in Love

Cheating is Now O.K?

We’re just coming through the finish of the holiday season for 2008.

New Year’s is our annual time to look back over the year to see what lessons we have learned, then set goals for our lives in the coming year, in this case, 2009.

This is supposed to be a time of joyous celebration and also a time for introspection.

What have we learned from 2008? What do we want for 2009?

Back in March 2008, I ran a series (more…)

Education Frustration

Frustrated man

What is the ANSWER to Education Reform?

Oh, Goodie, Goodie! It’s Holiday Time again!

That means that everyone has diverted their attention away from schoolwork, to getting ready for Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, or whatever.

Only a week or so until Winter Break (what used to be called “Christmas vacation”).

2009 is almost here!

Sooo. . . the 2008-2009 school year is halfway over and NOTHING has changed. All the big education report systems have been releasing the results of first semester monitoring. The general consensus is – NO HEADWAY is being made!

Now is the perfect time to release the mid-year progress reports, ’cause no one is paying attention.

GUESS WHAT!?!

Our schools continue to fall behind in Math, Science, Reading and finger painting. (Actually, I just made up the ‘finger painting’ part.)

But, the same groups of people are still calling for reform to No Child Left Behind while the same opposing groups are still demanding that NCLB be scrapped.

Ho Hum!

Oh, I DO have one bit of news. . .

In Georgia, a kindergartner brought a gun to school (an unloaded 22 caliber). This child seems to be the youngest student to be suspended for this infraction, SO FAR.

Also in Georgia, a high school student tried to choke a teacher. But then, that’s really too common to qualify as news, isn’t it? YAWN!

Folks! The school year is half over!

You gotta help us get the word out that there IS a solution to this education mess. And it’s gonna take A LOT of people forcing the issue to make anything happen.

I’m going to spend MY Christmas vacation (excuse me, Winter Break) figuring out how I can break past the stubborn status quo, promote The Kingsland Plan and straighten-out our public schools – FOR REAL!

Gotta go think!

Talk to you tomorrow,
Brennan

Back from Near-Death

Lightening Striking Tree

Lightening Striking Tree

I think the Devil is trying to kill me!

For almost two years, I’ve been trying to get the message out about the solution to the disasters in our public schools.

First, my computer got hit by lightening. Then my brand-spanking-new, super-deluxe model computer went haywire and had to be totally revamped.

Just got back on track when my kidneys went kaput temporarily. (That was scary, I can tell you.)

Then when I got all recuperated I had a BIG FALL!

Now I’m not talking a simple trip that landed me on my behind. With my MS, I’m used to those.

Nope, this was a real doozy!

The 180-year-old farmhouse we’ve been renovating forever and ever has a lot of built-in booby traps. I thought I was familiar with all of them, but I guess not!

In fact, the ‘booby trap’ that got me was attached to the 15 year old, three car, two-story garage that we had added to the property.

I was climbing the outside stairs to get Christmas decorations from storage in the apartment above the garage. Almost made it to the top too!

BAM! The stairway gave way under me and I managed to fall from the top to the bottom, using my right foot and hip as a battering ram. You know, kinda like those karate experts shatter a whole bunch of boards with their fists.

Trust me, this is not a good idea!

The really hard part was extricating my bruised and mangled body from the wreckage, then crawling on my hands and knees around to the front of the house, so my husband could help me to bed when he got home.

I didn’t realize that I had thousands of splinters and was dripping blood until I was able to get to the driveway. (Grass absorbs blood too fast, but it is sure easier on the knees for crawling.)

Unfortunately, during the last couple of weeks, there have been so many news-worthy items occurring on the education front, but I couldn’t type with my torn-up hands, even if I could have gotten out of bed to the computer.

Well, I’m recuperating! Nothing was broken but lotsa sprains and bruises, scratches, scrapes, etc. made life REAL uncomfortable for a while.

Since the bruises are all at the green and yellow stage, I no longer have an excuse to lie in bed and moan, SOOOO . . .

Starting tomorrow, I’m back to reporting and commenting on all the info I can bring you about the current state of public education in the USA.

BTW, Education is as ‘banged-up’ as I am.

Till tomorrow,
Brennan
